Ask a #teabagger (if you dare) what America they want us to be “restored” to, and you usually get an answer like “smaller government” or “returning to our Christian heritage” or some other such nonsense that the majority of them really don’t understand. They merely know the talking points generated by intolerant fomenters like #glenbeck #rushlimbaugh #anncoulter and #foxnews.

But all you really have to do to figure out what it is they want (or what it is they are told they want would probably be more accurate) is to actually listen to those self-same fomenters yourself. As a matter of fact, you could probably just listen to Glen Beck’s talking points to glean just what America is in their view. So let’s just list a few, shall we:

An America where women are debased and returned to biblical “Property” status. They should be at home, quietly working to please their man.

An America where it is okay to discriminate against blacks, Jews, Catholics, Gays, Atheists, Foreigners, and anyone else who doesn’t fit into the “White Anglo-Saxon Protestant” mold. Preferably Evangelical.

An America where Creationism is taught in school, where students are required to pray in school, where children are required to say the Godly Pledge of Allegiance, and where it is once again okay for the non-Christians to be harassed and driven out as outsiders.

An America where Abortion of any kind, for any reason is outlawed (despite these selfsame people crying foul whenever the government tries to step in and make things fair for everyone on other issues, teabaggers seem to be perfectly okay with the government mandating zero abortions, and prayer in school, and dictating marriage rules).

An America where only WASP bible thumping ‘Murikans can hold office, vote, be in our military, or even be considered a citizen.

An America that dominates every other country around it…no wait. We still do that one.

An America where it is only okay for one man and one woman to marry - as long as they can go back to the rule of thumb, put on your wife beater, and have at it.

And last in the list (but certainly not a complete list), an America where a liberal black man from Chicago could never be president.

The America they want to return to, in short, is an America we have already lived through - it is an America with misogyny, slavery, white supremacy, segregation, lynchings, burnings, dragging people of the wrong color to death, racial discrimination, religious discrimination, civil wars over slavery, treating women as second-class citizens, attempts to legislate morality, silently letting priests rape our children for decades, and every other manner of social evil you can think of.

Anyone really wanting to return to that SHOULD be called a teabagger. It is the height of irony that the people that started calling themselves teabaggers didn’t even know what the term teabagger meant - until it was too late.

They deserve nothing more than a nut sack in the face.
