More Information on Chain Gangs

Post Emancipation Proclamation and Post Civil war, White, Predominantly Anglo-Saxon Protestant slave holders, politicians, and rich people wanted a mechanism by which they could, in essence, continue slavery post-war. The primary mechanism for keeping blacks enslaved was through the use of what became known as “chain gangs.”

Of course that necessitated a way to separate white crime from black crime - and the mechanism by which the figured out how to do that directly resulted in the death of over a million blacks dying at hard labor - after slavery was abolished. The mechanism was simple: petty crimes resulted in assignment to chain gangs - capital crimes resulted in regular prison sentences.

Blacks, of course, were charged with all manner of trumped up petty crime charges - anything would do - landing them directly into the chain gang system. Whites, on the other hand, largely bypassed the petty crimes and were only charged with major felonies. It isn’t to say that Whites never got assigned to chain gangs, but by-and-large the entire system of chain gains throughout the southern states was a coordinated effort to re-enslave blacks to do WASP’s dirty work post-civil war.

And so it was that the southern chain gangs were filled with blacks - many of whom were freed former slaves - and it was rare indeed for a black man to ever finish his “sentence” to a chain gang alive. This, of course, was part of the plan - WASPS got practically free EXPENDABLE labor to do all sorts of tasks nobody else ought do. And it was there they died in droves. It was merely a continuation of slavery, pure and simple. And it was perpetuated by the people who lost the civil war.

It was perpetuated by the people who formed the KKK, by the people who split the Southern Baptist Convention away from the rest of the Baptist Church - primarily because THEY wanted to continue to support slavery. It was perpetuated by the same people who, today, continue to keep the racist, bigoted ideas of the confederacy alive - in spirit if not in name.

They have a new name now - it is called the TeaParty.
